The Tamil Nadu Chief Minster, Mr.M Karunanidhi, on Friday inaugurated the Chennai Chapter of the IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE), a US-based non-profit organisation of entrepreneurs and professionals formed to foster enterpreneurship and nurture entrepreneurs. The Chennai chapter is the fourth in the country after Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore with Mr.K V Ramani of Future Software as its founder – President.
Speaking at a function here Mr.Karunanidhi said that State Government was committed to the growth of IT industry in the State, and had taken a number of significant steps to ensure this.
The Chief Minister said there were about 200 IT Companies in the State, employing over 20,000 professionals. Software Exports during 1998-99 went up to Rs.1,270 crores from a mere Rs.5 crores during 1994-95.
On TiE, he said it was an excellent initiative by entrepreneurs from the Indian sub-continent, who have been very successful in the IT world.
The organisation represented an extremely valuable resource for the State and could play a critical role in inspiring and nurturing entrepreneurs – present and future. Mr.Kanwal Rekhi, President, TiE Group, said India was on the threshold of a new era with the IT sector taking a big leap.
Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh has taken lead in the IT sector, which should also spread all over India.
